Careers Events at Fairfax

CAREERS UPDATE
This half term there have been several Careers events:
• Year 9 met with a vast range of employers to ‘Guess their Job’!
• A group of Year 10 girls were invited to attend an International Women’s day webinar conducted by the Crown Prosecution Service. The webinar focussed on ‘Women in Law’ with the Chief prosecutor leading the way.
• A group of Year 8 and Year 10 students were invited by their Head of Year to take part in a F2D (Free 2 Dream) workshop run by Dan and Mark. Students put their design and business skills to the test by designing a hoodie, which will be manufactured and given back to each student once made.
• Year 11 have also had the opportunity to ensure they have their plans in place for when they leave Year 11, by attending an application workshop hosted by BMET college.
Next term plans include an Oxford University visit for some Year 9 students, and a ‘Meet the Professional’ event at which Year 10-13 will have the opportunity to listen and ask questions about particular career pathways. If any parent/carer would like to share their career journey, then please get in touch with Mrs Knowles by email to p.knowles@fairfax.fmat.co.uk.

Gold Standard for Fairfax Drama

Each year thousands of young people from primary, secondary and SEND schools across the country unite in the world’s largest youth drama festival run by the Shakespeare Schools Foundation. The comprehensive Festival process culminates in exhilarating performance evenings; young people playing Shakespeare in professional theatres, raising aspirations and unlocking the potential of students and teachers alike.

Fairfax is delighted to be a part of this amazing organisation and are proud to be recognised as one of their ‘Gold Schools’.  We look forward to taking part in the next performance at the Shakespeare Schools Festival.

Year 9 Aspiration trip to Oxford University

Our Year 9 students spent a day at Oxford University taking in the incredible facilities, meeting with staff and students and learning about what it means to attend university.

Table Cricket Finals at Lords

On Friday 9th June, a team of 5 Fairfax students took part in the Table Cricket National Finals at the home of cricket – Lords.

We were up against it from the beginning of the day as we had lost experienced players to illness or sitting GCSE Biology. We were like Argentina without Messi & Martinez!  However, the two ‘Newbies’ did excellently, with Anna Williams scoring three 6s from one over!

In our first group game, we beat the eventual winners of the tournament by ONE run! By the end of our group games, we were level on points/wins with two other teams. We had scored more runs. But our ‘run difference’ was less than theirs. So, we ended up in a play-off for 5th/6th place.

The team had to gel quickly and did so. They were brilliant ambassadors for Fairfax throughout the day. With Humzah and Cao fulfilling various media commitments with the BBC and local radio. Well done Team Fairfax!!

Fairfax has got talent!

Students also took a trip up the Berliner Fernsehturm an a boat trip taking in the sights along the river.

The photographs tell their own story of how well the students behaved and enjoyed the experience.  Thanks to all our staff for their dedication to participation at Fairfax.
